"Whatever has happened with Stalin, gentlemen, is a question for the Soviet Union. You are responsible, and your forebears, for 60 million to 100 million Black people dying in the slave ships and on the plantations, and don’t ask me about anybody, please."

- Paul Robeson before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC)

Lenin’s wife, Nadezhda Krupskaya, in the 1890s.
I can now see why Lenin was all up on that. She reminds me of Scarlett Johansson.

She reminds me of that girl from The Village idk

Look at her! She’s lovely! Also, her nose is just like mine.

“What is Soviet power? What is the essence of this new power, which people in most countries still will not, or cannot, understand? The nature of this power, which is attracting larger and larger numbers of workers in every country, is the following: in the past the country was, in one way or another, governed by the rich, or by the capitalists, but now, for the first time, the country is being governed by the classes, and moreover, by the masses of those classes, which capitalism formerly oppressed. Even in the most democratic and freest republics, as long as capital rules and the land remains private property, the government will always be in the hands of a small minority, nine-tenths of which consist of capitalists, or rich men.
In this country, in Russia, for the first time in the world history, the government of the country is so organized that only the workers and the working peasants, to the exclusion of the exploiters, constitute those mass organisations known as Soviets, and these Soviets wield all state power. That is why, in spite of the slander that the representatives of the bourgeoisie in all countries spread about Russia, the word “Soviet” has now become not only intelligible but popular all over the world, has become the favorite word of the workers, and of all working people. And that is why, notwithstanding all the persecution to which the adherents of communism in the different countries are subjected, Soviet power must necessarily, inevitably, and in the not distant future, triumph all over the world.
We know very well that there are still many defects in the organisation of Soviet power in this country. Soviet power is not a miracle-working talisman. It does not, overnight, heal all the evils of the past- illiteracy, lack of culture, the consequences of a barbarous war, the aftermath of predatory capitalism. But it does pave the way to socialism. It gives those who were formerly oppressed the chance to straighten their backs and to an ever-increasing degree to take the whole government of the country, the whole administration of the economy, the whole management of production, into their own hands.
Soviet power is the road to socialism that was discovered by the masses of the working people, and that is why it is the true road, that is why it is invincible.”

Nikolai Bukharin
Although Bukharin and Lenin were often in disagreement over how Marx’s socialist system was to be put into practice, among many other things, the two began a strong relationship and had respect for each other. Lenin spoke of Bukharin as being “the greatest and most valuable theoretician in the party,” and “deservedly the favourite of the party.” Bukharin’s work influenced Lenin, in particular his book on imperialism, Imperialism and World Economy, which Lenin borrowed from in his own writings on the subject. After Lenin’s death Bukharin became the leading theorist of the party and was chief of staff of the Bolshevik Party.
In 1937 Bukharin was arrested by Stalin on charges of Trotskyist activities and convicted during one of the Stalin purge trials. In February 1988, fifty years after Bukharin’s execution as a traitor, the verdict was reversed and his name cleared by the Soviet Supreme Court.

In August 1991, Workers World Party held demonstrations in New York and San Francisco to protest the reinstatement of Yeltsin and Gorbachev and the subsequent suppression of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Pravda.
WWP was the only communist group in the U.S. to take to the streets in defense of socialism and against the Bush-Yeltsin-Gorbachev counter-revolution.

I am so proud to have been a part of this demonstration and to be a member of WWP in times of crisis for the global working class.

Back in the USSR? After 20 Years, Many Russians Wish They Were

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

Mrs. Komar, who works as a helper at a health club, still builds her life around the memory of her son. She echoes the view of Mr. Veretelny, saying, “If my son could have seen where the country was going, he wouldn’t have been at the barricades [of the Yeltsin counter-revolution].”

Sitting in her apartment, surrounded by photographs that trace his growth from a boy to a soldier, she said she had given up on the political process.

“I haven’t been to vote for 10 years,” she said. “They’ll do fine without me. They choose whoever they want, so why vote?”

Like many Russians, she grew to despise Mr. Yeltsin for what she saw as his weak leadership, and she is now part of a large majority of Russians supporting Mr. Putin. But what she would really like, she said, is to turn back the clock.

“I felt more comfortable in the U.S.S.R.,” she said. “You always had a piece of bread. You always had work. Yes, sure, you can go overseas now, but you have to have money for that and you have to go into debt. Now, if you don’t have money you can’t do anything.”

Russia: Communists remember 1991 attempt to overthrow Gorbachev

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

The Russian Communist Party will hold events called “20 years without the USSR” to commemorate the failed coup to seize power from Mikhail Gorbachev in 1991.

The leadership of the Communist Party (CPRF) has decided to hold several events across the country on August 18-26 to mark the 20th anniversary of the August 1991 coup led by hardliners in the Soviet leadership. Today’s Communist Party says it was an attempt to save the Soviet Union, although many believe the coup organizers achieved quite the opposite result after they attempted to isolate then-President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev on August 18, 1991.

Twenty years to the day, the first event will be held in the city of Donetsk, Ukraine. The CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov will take part in a rally as well as the proceeding concert.  Heads of the Communist parties of the former Soviet republics, now independent states, will also be in attendance, a deputy of the CPRF chairman, Vladimir Kashin, told Interfax on Monday.

A similar rally should take place on Moscow’s central Pushkinskaya Square on August 20. On August 19 – the day in history when the Soviet people had been told about Gorbachev’s removal from power – young Communist activists will place red tents on the streets of Moscow to hold the so-called people’s referendum, which is also taking place under the initiative of the CPRF.

In Siberia, the Communists will hold “a gathering of peoples” to analyze what the country “has missed out on as a result of the break-up of the USSR.”

Twenty years ago, several members of the Soviet leadership, including the defense minister and the KGB chief, tried to disrupt the signing of a new union treaty between the country’s constituent republics. They isolated then-President Mikhail Gorbachev in his residence on Crimea and created the State Emergency Committee (GKChP). The coup failed after three days of resistance organized by the leadership of the main republic – Russia, headed by then-President Boris Yeltsin.

On August 23, the Communist Party was banned from operating on Russian territory. The Russian Federation took over the institutions of the union state, and the USSR disintegrated in December 1991.

The current task of the CPRF is to draw public attention to “the criminal activity of the destroyers of the USSR,” the party’s leader Gennady Zyuganov said in a letter sent to the heads of regional branches on Monday. People should be reminded of the negative consequences of the disintegration, the colossal opportunities that have been missed and the need “to restore a renewed union of peoples.”

Socialism's agenda time

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

By Stephen Gowans

From 1928, when the Soviet Union laid the foundations of its socialist economy, until the late 1980s, when Gorbachev began to dismantle them, the Soviet economy grew without pause, except during the period of the Nazi war machine’s scorched-earth invasion. Unemployment and later economic insecurity became ills of the past.

True, growth slowed beginning in the 1970s, but the major culprits were the diversion of budgets and R&D to the military to counter threats of US and NATO aggression, and growing resource extraction costs, not the alleged inefficiencies of public ownership and central planning, as is now widely believed.

In fact, Soviet socialism—while it existed–worked better than capitalism in producing economic growth. …

The future—as mass unemployment, worsening economic malaise, and austerity make clear–has arrived.

Surely we can do better than capitalism. The time to put socialism on the agenda is now.
