White man at The Guardian says British atrocities benefited Asians

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

By Sukant Chandan, Sons of Malcolm

April 19 - Many secret papers exposing the atrocities of the british empire have come to light, papers which should have been in the public realm in the 1980s. Nothing especially new has come out of these papers, but it is another reminder of the white supremacist massive violent nature of the british empire.

michael white, a sour-faced stupid white man at the Guardian, who happens to be its associate editor, decides these atrocities were to the benefit of Asian peoples when he writes:

But just because it is easy with hindsight to condemn or mock the excesses of the time doesn’t mean our parents and grandparents weren’t right to be nervous – or even that the often-brutal suppression of the Malayan insurgency didn’t do modern Malaysia, conspicuously prosperous and relatively open, a historic favour. Just think about neighbouring Burma.

Another indicator that the britain is desperate to white-wash its colonial crimes in a pathetic attempt to resuscitate the british empire just as when we are living through a historical period when the british state and its international reach is disappearing into oblivion.

This futile attempt to bring the british empire back from the dead also has some dangerous elements to it:

1, the whole western imperialism system is in existentialist crisis, and in this crisis will go to desperate lengths to maintain its position in relation to the emerging anti-imperialist process of the Global South. Regime-change, sanctions, organising coups and outright war are the physical methods by which empire tries to maintain and bolster itself.

2, there is a campaign of lies and manipulation in the media, with empire trying to make people think white supremacy has gone, and that subjugation is actually freedom and liberation. So the nato blitz of Libya and regime-change there was actually freeing the Libyan people, and the rule of scores of murdering militias there is actually democracy.

This is also done cultural level with the white power structure managing to succeed in convincing many of our young people that they not need be concerned with the freedom struggle of the African/Afrikan people especially, but all the while using black cultural forms to divide young people from anti-imperialist concerns.

Castro, Baseball and the Thought Police

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

What a pitiful spectacle.  Ozzie Guillen, the hard-partying eccentric who manages the Florida Marlins, sits weeping in the harsh glare of TV lights, forced by his bosses to recant his praise for Fidel Castro.  He’s already been punished with a five-game suspension, but the baseball thought-police won’t be placated until he does a literal “mea culpa.”

So, in his wonderfully mangled English, he begs forgiveness for saying “I love Fidel Castro…I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that fucker is still here.”  But what he really meant, he now says, is ever-so-subtly different: “Everybody in the world hates Fidel Castro, including myself.”

Margot Honecker defends East Germany

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

Although the liberals at The Guardian try to dismiss her with snide anti-communism, Comrade Margot Honecker’s words are well worth reading.

Margot Honecker, 84, who as education minister of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) served alongside her husband, describes her homesickness for a “lost nation” and calls its demise a tragedy in an interview due to be broadcast on German television on Monday evening.

The documentary, which was years in the making due to Honecker’s dogged insistence she would never give an interview to “West German” media, shows her at home in Chile where she escaped to with her husband after the collapse of the Berlin Wall in the early 1990s.

“It is a tragedy that this land no longer exists,” she tells the interviewer, Eric Friedler, adding that, while she lives in Chile “my head is in Germany”. She does not, however, mean united Germany, rather the “better Germany” of the GDR.

“Margot Honecker showed no remorse, or discernment, she expressed no word of regret or apology,” he said.

“She might be in Chile, but she is very well connected to a whole guard of old comrades. She regularly spends hours reading the internet, knows exactly what’s going on in Germany, but says her desire for Germany is restricted to … the GDR.”

Honecker predicted the socialist Germany for which she and her husband, who died of cancer in 1994, fought for, would have its chance again. “We laid a seed in the ground which will one day come to fruition,” she says. “We just didn’t have enough time to realise our plans.”

47 years late, NY Times reports on anti-communist massacre in Indonesia

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

From Stephen Millies:

In 1965, Indonesia—which has the largest Muslim population in the world—also had the largest communist party in the world outside the socialist bloc. Three million people belonged to the PKI (the initials of the communist party), which was the oldest CP in Asia, with roots dating back before World War I. Twenty million people belonged to trade unions, women’s groups, peasant leagues and other organizations that were affiliated to the PKI.

The biggest political massacre since Hitler began in the fall of 1965. One million Indonesians were murdered, including 1 out of 10 people on the island of Bali. The U.S. embassy prepared lists of communists to be executed. The political genocide in Indonesia became the template for fascists around the world. The code name used by the coup plotters in Chile on Sept. 11, 1973 was “Jakarta.”

After many years of silence, the Jan. 19 New York Times has a large article on what happened in Indonesia. Using the search feature on the Times web site, I found that this is the first time in at least 31 years that this so-called paper of record has even mentioned the PKI.

Minisemantica del razzismo (da) quotidiano

uomoinpolvere:

Eyewitnesses dismiss 'rebel' advances on Tripoli as misinformation

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

Reports of tracer bullets and explosions over the Libyan capital have sparked rumours of the imminent defeat of Colonel Gaddafi and his regime. However, it turns out the shots were fired in celebration at a victory for Gaddafi loyalists.

On Saturday evening, rounds were fired close to a hotel hosting foreign journalists. Explosions were also heard in the area as NATO aircraft carried out heavy bombing runs after nightfall, the Associated Press reported.

Rebels were reported to be fighting in the city’s Tajoura neighbourhood, as well as near Tripoli’s international airport. There have been reports that fighting also broke out in the neighborhoods of Soug Jomaa and Arada in the east. The NATO-backed rebels in Libya claimed that a battle for the capital Tripoli could unfold by the end of the month, as they have now taken control of key cities around the Gaddafi stronghold.

However, all these reports have proven false.

The director of Americans for Middle East Peace, Dr Franklin Lamb, who is in Tripoli right now, informed RT that reports of the rebels having entered Tripoli are nonsense, though sporadic gunfire is indeed being heard from time to time.

According to Dr Lamb, the real danger is posed by NATO planes that drop bombs and fire missiles at the city hourly.

Independent journalist Lizzie Phelan says the reports are an effort by NATO to create panic.

“The only gunfire that we are hearing is celebratory gunfire,” she said. “And the only explosions that we are hearing are NATO air strikes or NATO sound bombs, which are clearly designed to create a sense of panic in the capital city of Tripoli.”

Phelan said that the Libyan rebels created fake footage of themselves in Zawiya and Tripoli, and were aided in disseminating the footage by, among other media outlets, Al Jazeera. The Qatar-based satellite television station, she argued, has been at the center of the media conspiracy against Libya. The Western mainstream media, she continued, in turn picked up these reports and repeated them, creating a sense of panic among the Libyan people.

A Cuban in Ireland: Dalai Lama, Limerick and yours truly

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

By Reinaldo Taladrid Herrero

The University was hosting a discussion on the “50th Anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory”, but a totally unexpected complication arose: a large audience had gathered at the University’s sports arena that same day for a speech to be delivered by none other than the Dalai Lama.

As I waited for my turn and the Dalai Lama spoke, the main local radio station called to ask whether I would be willing to grant a live interview about Cuba. I said yes, and a few minutes later I was on the air.

My interviewer began with the usual boilerplate topics, namely the “embargo” (that’s right, the well-known 50-year-old blockade), but no sooner had I started to answer than he interrupted me: “Sir, we’re sorry, but we must go to cover the speech the Dalai Lama is giving right here in our University as we speak. But if you don’t mind, please stay on the line. We’ll be back.”

By then the Dalai Lama was preaching “forgiveness, acceptance and serenity”. Suddenly I heard the voice of my presenter saying: “We’re back with Mr. Taladrid, the Cuban journalist, and my question is: Sir, what is Cuba like today, a brutal dictatorship or the picture-perfect paradise we see in your tourist ads?”

My answer: “Cuba is not a paradise; no country on Earth is. We have as many and diverse problems as any other country, although I’m glad to see that you’re familiar with our tourist industry. I suggest to your listeners that they should visit the Island, where they will find a very beautiful, safe, cultured and honorable nation. Whatever made you think that Cuba is a brutal dictatorship? What happens sometimes to honest, albeit misinformed, people is that they overlook the fact that Cuba is constantly examined in minute detail through the Hubble telescope, but those who describe it usually do it after a simple look through a pair of low-strength glasses that give you blurry, mistaken images.” But all of a sudden, as I was about to mention specific examples…

“Sir, I’m sorry, we’re going live again with the Dalai Lama’s speech, but please hold the line, because it seems our listeners are calling to ask questions about Cuba.”

Tiananmen Square ‘massacre’ was a myth

fuckyeahmarxismleninism:

By Deirdre Griswold, Workers World

Not one U.S. newspaper, television or radio outlet has reported or commented on these cables released by WikiLeaks, nor on the Telegraph story about them. It is as though they fell into a bottomless chasm.

Is it because the media here don’t believe the report is credible? Hardly.

The New York Times knows it’s credible. Their own Beijing bureau chief at the time, Nicholas Kristof, confirmed it in an extensive article entitled “China Update: How the Hardliners Won,” published in the Sunday Times magazine on Nov. 12, 1989, five months after the supposed massacre in the square.

At the very end of this long article, which purported to give an inside view of a debate within the Chinese Communist Party leadership, Kristof stated categorically: “Based on my observations in the streets, neither the official account nor many of the foreign versions are quite correct. There is no massacre in Tiananmen Square, for example, although there is plenty of killing elsewhere.”

Had there been fighting in Beijing? Absolutely. But there was no massacre of unarmed students in the square. That was an invention by the West, intended to demonize the Chinese government and win public sympathy for a counter-revolution.

The turn toward a market economy under Deng Xiaoping had alienated many workers. There was also a counter-revolutionary element trying to take advantage of popular grievances to completely restore capitalism.

The imperialists were hoping the struggles in Beijing would bring down the Chinese Communist Party and destroy the planned economy — similar to what was to happen two years later in the Soviet Union. They wanted to “open up” China, not to truth, but to the looting of the people’s property by imperialist banks and corporations.

After much wavering at the top, the army was called out and the uprising crushed. China was not broken up like the Soviet Union; its economy has not imploded nor has the standard of living declined. Quite the opposite. Wages and social conditions have been improving at a time when workers elsewhere are being forced backward by a severe capitalist economic crisis.

Despite deep concessions to capitalism, foreign and domestic, China continues to have a planned economy based on a strong state-owned infrastructure.
