classe: vien da chiedersi che Q abbia letto Civati. Perché non sembra che ci abbia capito un cazzo.

Sembra di essere in quel romanzo, che si intitola Q. Che tutti hanno la loro setta, il loro movimento, la loro fede. E si ritengono irriducibili, nella loro enfatica predicazione.

Sì, peccato le sette di Q per quanto con una prospettiva, appunto, settaria e infine troppo deboli per sopravvivere al contrattacco dei poteri forti, rappresentassero la lotta del popolo contro la classe dominante.

just came across a vinyl influences mix i did for the now defunkt and sorely missed straight no chaser magazine in like ‘09 . here are the words i wrote to go with it back then…

On putting together this influences and rarities mix, first thing to conclude is this: I don’t have that many super-rare records. So I have tried to focus on assembling an interesting selection of the records that have influenced and formed the framework of my sound. I hope you enjoy.

1. JAYDEE – Ritma Suave Bossa Nova [BBE]
The producer demi-god on a Latin flex. He’s such an important part of new music that he had to weigh in first.

2. TOMMY STEWART – Bump and Hustle Music [Luv N’Haight]
What can I say? ‘Out of sight!’ Representative of an amazing era in music – I have really gained so much from appreciating the ‘freeness’ of this music.

3. FLOATING POINTS – Love Me Like This [R2]
The only track to feature from this year. Super slick thumps from the hot topic, Floating Points. You gotta have the vocal version in my opinion.

4. TOUCHE – Just Like a Doorknob [Gipsy Music]
One of my absolute favourite disco tracks. Thudding, squelchy bassline with obligatory hands-in-the-air moment. Super cool.

5. KERRIER DISTRICT – Let’s Dance and Freak [Rephlex Catalog]
I spent 2003/2004 obsessing over the Warp/Rephlex back catalogue; this came at the end of that obsession. I think it represents the sounds I kept hearing at Warp nights, those times when I’d wonder: ‘Where did this cool ‘house’ music exist?’

6. MAW – MAW Expensive (a Tribute to Fella) [Cut]
I remember the night I first heard this get dropped. It was hot, packed and everyone was getting down – I’d never heard music like it before! It was feel-good house music with good rhythms; at that point I thought all house music was static and boring. That was the night I stopped being into moody male-rage music.

7. KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE – The Brightness of These Days (Quantic Remix) [Compost]
I had to pick one from Quantic – such mad inspiration. I really dug all his rougher edged, early stuff. It was like a window to what could be achieved with this music. He still reigns supreme but I miss some of his edgier bass music.

8. AMY WINEHOUSE – In My Bed (Bugz in the Attic Remix) [Island]
Again, the first time I heard this tune I just couldn’t believe how sick the combination was. These haunted soul vocals over pure rhythmic fire.

9. MJ COLE – Sincere (Jazzanova’s Sincererly Yours mix) [JCR]
This is probably a little bit classic for this mix but I just had to add it. This represents an era after I first picked up the Jazzanova ‘Remixes’ album – a five-vinyl pack at the back of a dusty shop. Tune after tune. Possibly one of the most influential packs of music I’ve ever owned. Again, I just couldn’t believe the rhythms and finesse that their productions possessed at the time. (p.s. sorry for the skip)

10. ZERO DB – Samba Do Umbigo [Ninja Tune]
Pure vibe b-side to their seminal ‘Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines’ album.

11. JIMMY EDGAR – Inner Citee Color Reprise [Warp]
Incredible, next-level electronic music. I’m not sure if anyone has really touched Jimmy since. Such perfection and sheen laced with unadulterated sleaze.

12. DIGITAL MYSTIKZ – Ugly [Big Apple]
I remember reading about Digital Mystikz before I’d actually heard them. And they were as good as I had imagined!

13. MARTYN – Natural Selection [3024]
This track, itself, doesn’t stand out as a huge inspiration. However, I feel it represents a collective consciousness in new music. Those groups of artists from around the world that seem to congregate at Brainfeeder nights have been given a home to make great music by labels like this. Their attitude is right and the music that emerges from these groups as a whole is the biggest inspiration. It’s also a sick tune. “

Just reading this bollocks about something called “classism” from this links and resources post that was going around … ooft it’s a pile of shite.

The group that make it are called ‘class action’ and their logo has the subheading:

“building bridges across the class divide”

Which pretty much sums it up. They want to smooth out relations between the classes by getting rich people to befriend us, listen to our life experiences and ‘check their privileges. ‘

They want “a world without classism” which:

“treats people from every background, class status, and rank with dignity and respect;”

So, we still have to do al the work while they make all the profit, but we get treated nicely. Working class isn’t an identity, it’s a position in society - the fucking bottom. If you want us to stay at the bottom then you don’t respect us, and all the kind words in the world won’t change that. I don’t care if you feel guilty for being rich (you bloody well should) - I don’t want you to feel comfortable with my working classness because I don’t feel comfortable with it. I want to see an end to all classes, and yours fucking first, sunshine.

The only reason we should build a bridge between classes is to go drag the rich out of their homes and fuckin’ hang them on it.
